If we were to pick one iconic Dublin character who captured the hearts of a nation, it’s Mattress Mick. He won us over with his crazy advertising antics, and we can’t help but love him.

Despite the recession, Mattress Mick’s incredibly random advertising campaign helped him forge his mattress empire.

We all fell in love with him and his creative ways of rising to the top of his mattress empire.

Despite all his fame and fortune, he says he is just an ordinary man who has more in common with us than you might think.

Read on to discover ten things you might have in common with Mattress Mick.

    10. You’re not afraid of failure – if, at first, you don’t succeed, try again

Mattress Mick, or Michael Flynn as his friends and family know him, has had his fair share of failures in his career. But he’s not afraid to acknowledge his losses and try again.

In conversation with Stephen Larkin, Mick said, “Failure is normal, and to be successful, you must overcome some sort of failure along the way”.

    9. You have a unique sense of style – Mick is not afraid to stand out

He’s instantly recognisable from his long curly hairdo. We’ve seen him don lab coats and pimp suits, and he even has staff members dressing up as actual mattresses.

If you’re not afraid to stand out from the crowd, then this is just one of the things you might have in common with Mattress Mick.

    8. You’ve been known to spit a rhyme or two – Mick is a talented rapper

Mattress Mick’s fantastic music video and song shot him into the stratosphere of stardom. He is, without a doubt, a talented rap artist.

Like spitting a verse or two at a session? Then this is one of the things you might have in common with Mattress Mick.

    7. You love a good bargain – we love a bargain, and Mick does, too

One of the things you might have in common with Mattress Mick is that you love a good bargain.

If you’re anything like Mick, you love a good deal.

Mick loves a sale so much that he’s more than willing to share them. Who doesn’t love a good bargain, sure?

    6. You appreciate a good night’s sleep – rest is important

We all need to sleep at the end of the day, and nobody understands that more than Mattress Mick.

How much do you appreciate a good night’s rest?

Before he was the mattress king we know today, Mattress Mick worked as a banker.

After banking, he initially sold furniture, bottled gas, and drapery. He even worked as a taxi man for a spell. He’s not afraid to try his hand at anything.

    4. You love a good pint – a pint of plain is your only man

Mattress Mick has been known to share his love for a pint of Guinness across his social media pages.

A man after our hearts, to be sure.

    3. You’re very popular – a man about town

If you thrive within your social circles, then this is one of the things you might have in common with Mattress Mick.

    2. You’re not afraid to get silly – sure, if you’re not laughing, you’d be crying

We know Mattress Mick, of course, from his zany social media marketing campaign. With the help of his friend Paul Kelly, Michael Flynn forged his out there Mattress Mick alter-ego.

We’ve seen Mattress Mick surfing on mattresses through the skies, rapping with puppets, and, of course, “drinking two spoons of mattress in my mattress-y tea”. An absolute legend.

    1. You’re a creative genius – Mick is loud and proud with his advertising

Mattress Mick has staff walking around dressed as mattresses. He has his own songs. He’s grown so big that he’s been seen on RTÉ and has even had his documentary, Mattress Men.

There’s no denying that Michael Flynn is a creative Mattress God who deserves every bit of his success.

Can you match Mattress Micks’ creativity? He’d be hard to beat, for sure. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for him.
